No 4th of July Here. We Honored Iranian Resistance Instead.

This July 4th, Bronx Mutual Aid, the mutual aid arm of Bronx Anti-War, was outside in the heat wave running our survival program like we do every week, rain or shine, because the community depends on it. Our volunteers served 300+ neighbors with hot food, cold water, and fresh produce, all completely free.

We do not celebrate the 4th of July. There is nothing to celebrate about a country founded on slavery, genocide, and land theft. Instead, we dedicated this distro to the life and martyrdom of Ayatollah Sayyed Ali Khamenei, leader of the Axis of Resistance, murdered by U.S. imperialism earlier this year on the first day of its failed war of aggression against Iran. This same week, millions are gathering across Iran, Iraq, and around the world for his funeral, and the Bronx stands with them. We honor him, and we honor the revolutionary people, military, and leadership of the Islamic Republic of Iran.

We are oppressed people living in the belly of the beast. We have more in common with the Iranian people and their leadership than with the empire we live under, because we share the same enemy: U.S.-led western imperialism. Khamenei's legacy will outlive the empire that killed him, because ideas rooted in the aspirations of oppressed peoples cannot be destroyed by force. He is an inspiration for oppressed people everywhere, including here in the Bronx: resistance is the only path to liberation.
